SIX Announces Closing of the Acquisition of SIX Payment Services by Worldline

30.11.2018

On 30 November 2018, SIX and Worldline announced the completion of the acquisition of SIX Payment Services by Worldline. As part of the transaction valued at CHF 2.75 billion, SIX now holds a 27% equity stake in Euronext-listed Worldline and takes two seats in the Worldline Board of Directors. Schellenberg Wittmer advised Zurich-headquartered SIX in the transaction.

In May 2018 SIX had announced a strategic partnership with Worldline in the cards business (merchant acceptance & acquiring and international card processing). From a strategic point of view SIX Payment Services and Worldline complement each other very well in terms of geographic reach and product offering.

The combined enterprise is now the leading and largest European provider in the payments services industry.

Schellenberg Wittmer acted as Swiss legal counsel to SIX Group. The team consisted of partners Lorenzo Olgiati (Corporate/M&A, overall co-lead), Martin Weber (Corporate/M&A, overall co-lead), Josef Caleff (Real Estate/M&A), Roland Mathys (ICT), Philipp Groz (IP), and team members Mirjam Schneider, Karin Hofstetter, Christian Bonhôte, Zlatina Iliev, Marcel Jakob and Jessica Obrist (all Corporate/M&A), Christine Beusch-Liggenstorfer (Employment), Samuel Klaus, Claudia Jung (both ICT) and Teresa Rudolph (IP).
